Uzere kingdom holds maiden thanksgiving service
By Voke Okpede
Uzere kingdom, in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State recently held a thanksgiving service in appreciation of God’s faithfulness and mercy over the kingdom and the throne.
The thanksgiving service, which was the first of its kind to be held in over the 621 and 561 years of existence of Uzere kingdom and the throne respectively, had in attendance Edio-Emuzo, Edio-Orere, Central Executive, Council of Chiefs, Ministers of God from all denominations, Most Senior Iletus, Sub Iletus, Community Leaders (including past presidents and chairmen) Quarter Chairmen, Uzere Youths, Education, Marriage, Action, CDB, Vigilante, Oil and Gas committee and the general public.
In his address, HRM Henry Ukenukpepia Etuwede III, the Ovie of Uzere stated that he got the inspiration to hold the thanksgiving service from the holy spirit, “the holy spirit himself inspired me to hold this programme, and I obeyed promptly because some of the things that happened in Uzere within the last few years happened in other communities and they could not resolve nor settle them on time and this led into disintegration. But we resolved ours neither by strength nor might but by the grace of God. Having promptly obeyed God, I am seeing brighter days ahead of us and as God continue to protect and direct us, it will be a yearly event.”
Fielding questions from newsmen, Apostle Dr. Peter Efeturi said “I see a new Uzere kingdom. I see a kingdom overtaken by the glory of God. Persons that have been submerged under the powers of darkness have been liberated and so the joy of the lord is taking over the kingdom. I see a kingdom that in the next five years many will come and will not be able to recognize the kingdom because of the spate of growth and development. Everything will take a new leaf from today.” Pastor Silver .O. Ureghe who was representing Christian Association of Nigeria Chairman in Uzere, Ven. Nathaniel Usiayo noted that “a lot of things have been lost from this community. But by bringing all the people of God together to pray and offer thanksgiving I believe that there will be a total restoration of all that is lost in Uzere.”
On his part, Snr. Apostle Dr. Sam .O. Oguh said “traditionally every Ovie is the chief priest of the town juju called Eni, but we are seeing a difference in this administration as HRM Henry Ukenukpepia Etuwede III is a born again Christian cum traditionalist. That is why the people are safe, are progressing go to every nook and cranny of Uzere you will see big and modern buildings springing up, if you count the number of Uzere students in Universities in Delta, Ife, Ibadan and Nsukka you will be amazed. For me this is the best thing that has happened in Uzere since inception because of all the kings that has ruled, none deemed it fit to thank God and he who remembers that there is a God and acknowledges him must achieve progress.
Also speaking Secretary to the Council of Chiefs, Chief Eyetuoma Felix Osize said this thanksgiving was a sign of better things to come “we pray that God should give us the right counsel to guide the king so that he does not derail in his decisions as it concerns the wellbeing of Uzere citizens so that we have cause to thank God in the years ahead. Also Chairman of Marriage Committee Mr. Christopher Utedhe Ogueri stated that he was happy this was happening in the land and in his time but called on sons and daughters of Uzere Kingdom within and outside Nigeria to remember home and be part of whatever programmes that are for the progress of the land.
