The Urhobos of Delta South Senatorial District comprising of Agbarha ,Okere Urhobo Kingdoms of Warri, Warri South and Patani Local Government Areas have said that they are entitle to all rights and privileges accruing to indigenes of the Senatorial District including appointment into the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.
They stressed that in as much as they are indigenous Urhobos in Warri who in Agbarha and Okere Urhobo Kingdoms with their two different traditional rulers, with six Independent National Electoral Commission INEC delineated wards in Warri South Local Government Area they have the same rights, and privileges accruable to their counterparts of Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko
It is Misleading and mischievous” For a faceless Group in Delta South APC,to say Delta South Senatorial District is made up of Ijaws,Isoko and Itsekiri.
In a Press Release signed by Mudiaga Enaife, Faith Isiavwe,Grace Owhofa and Ufuoma Ukpebitere for and on behalf of the All Progressive Congress, APC, members and Indigenes of Okere Urhobo Kingdom and Agbarha Kingdm of Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta South Senatorial District made available to journalists in Warri ,in a reaction to a publication on page 38, of Vanguard Newspaper of 21, August 2019, by a “;Non existent Group” they said the publication is misleading and mischievious with the sole aim of creating false impression that there are only three tribes in Delta South Senatorial District.
The APC members and Indigenes of Okere Urhobo Kingdom and Agbarha Kingdom of Warri,Warri South Local Government Area of Delta South Senatorial District went into memory lane to defend their position disclosing that when Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan an Itsekiri man from Delta South Senatorial District was Governor of Delta State he nominated his Itsekiri brothers in the person’s of Engr.Omasuli Tuoyo as Executive Director Projects EDP,NDDC and Mr Val Areyenka as NDDC Commissioner representing Delta State in the Board of NDDCall Itsekiris” And there was no protest”
They argued that the truth is that the Urhobos of Agbarha Kingdm and Okere Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State including the Urhobos in Patani Local Government Area are entitled to any Federal appointment like their brothers and sisters from the Ijaw,Isoko and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities as well since they are all from Delta South Senatorial District.
and therefore, called on the public to disregard the said publication which they described as ” dangerous, divisive, mischievous, false and a self serving piece of political propaganda .
“ Delta South Senatorial District is made up of Urhobo,Ijaw,Isoko and Itsekiri with equal political and economic rights.” They concluded
Odorubu, Uduophori, Imighwre communities add voice
Meanwhile, Urhobos in Odorubu, Uduophori, and Imighwre communities in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State have come out to join their brothers in Okere Urhobo and Agbarha Kingdoms in Warri South local Government Area in Delta South senatorial District to tell the world that they are indeed part and parcel of Delta South Senatorial District and share equal rights with other ethnic groups in the district.
In a press release signed by Barrister Reginald Asiuwhu, Rev.Isreal Unutame, Mr Ughere Riland, and Dr Atake Roland for the All Progressive Congress, APC, members and indigenes of Odorubu, Uduphori and Imighwe communities of Patani Local Government Area of Delta South Senatorial District made available to journalists in Warri; they said Urhobos in the Senatorial District have been grossly marginalized and treated like aliens from unknown places.
“Since the inception of democracy, the Urhobos in the Delta south senatorial district have been grossly marginalized and trampled upon like aliens from unknown places. They stressed that it was not their own making to be in the senatorial district and therefore wonder why they should be marginalized politically.
They said since the creation of Patani Local Government Area the Urhobos have not held the position of Delta State House of Assembly nor Council Chairman adding that despite their huge contributions towards the 4,000 votes scored by Mr President during the National Assembly Elections they have nothing to show for it in terms of political empowerment and therefore, ” We have taken a joint stand with our brothers to kick against the gross marginalization being meted on us and seek to jostle for any appointive position that is accruing to the Delta south senatorial district ”
They submitted that they have qualified and capable hands among them to handle any position coming to Delta South Senatorial District just like other ethnic groups of Ijaw,Isoko and Itsekiri..
