Ughelli Township was agog at the news of the return of Chief Pius Ovbije (POC) who had been in hospital for the past two months.
Chief Pius Ovbije who was the Ughelli North Coordinator of the Okowa Campaign Committee for the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Delta had a fire accident on April 5, Easter Day night and had since been hospitalised.
While he was undergoing treatment rumour mill had it the Okowa strong man in Ughelli had passed on.
The rumour sent a cold wold throughout the State before it was dispelled as false. Having recuperated, Chief Ovbije was discharged from hospital and returned to his Ughelli home on Tuesday, June 2.
On Wednesday, June 3, news of his return from hospital filtered into town and the whole of Ughelli went agog.
Friends, well-wishers, the political class and youths of Ughelli who have benefited from the generosity of POC in one way or the other jumped into the streets joining a convoy of vehicles to celebrate the survival and safe home arrival of their benefactor.
The youths in their excitement declared and pronounced a return of evil to anybody who wished evil for POC.
In an interview, Chief Pius Ovbije expressed gratitude to all and sundry for their concern for his welfare. He said he never knew that people loved him so much.
POC expressed special thanks to the governor of Delta State, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his support during the period of his travail.
“Please help me to thank Okowa for all his support. I thank all of you for your prayers” he said.
In separate interviews, Mr Joseph Onakpoma the President of Orogun Unity Group said “it is a very good thing that today we are seeing our brother, colleague and leader coming back from the great trial that he has faced for some time now. In fact, we are overwhelmed with joy and we give God the glory and the thanks for giving us this opportunity to meet with him again.
Asked why so many people are involved in jubilation over POC’s return, he said “the reason why people are in jubilation for his survival and safe return home is that the man is a very good man, he is very generous, he commands respect and the challenge he passed through was a pain to every one of us and that is why everybody is happy with his arrival and I am so happy too.”
Also speaking, Comrade Monday Owhesiri, the Delta State Commander of Vigilante Group of Nigeria said “we are happy because God Almighty saved him from the fire accident. The news entered the whole world that POC cannot make it but today, by the grace of God the man that people thought was dead is alive and this is a message to everybody, POC can never loose what he has worked for, he must reap the fruit of the labour of his hands because I am very convinced that Okowa has a portion for him.”
