UDU honours SSG, CJ, Edevbie, others
By Jon Egie
The Ughelli Descendants Union, UDU, a socio-cultural organization of sons and daughters of Ughelli kingdom, Saturday, Sept 19, honoured indigenes of Ughelli holding political appointments in the Okowa led government of Delta state.
Among those honoured were the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Hon Festus Ovie Agas; the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Marshal Mukoro; Olorogun David Edevbie, Hon Commissioner of Finance; Executive and Special Assistants of Ughelli scion as well as Hon Prince Eric Oharis of the DTHA.
President General of UDU, Chief Kenneth Iwhewhe in a welcome address said Ughelli was a hot bed in Delta central senatorial region during the last election period and that the Ughelli people strove to put their house on a strong footing to host all political aspirants and did the needful as all the political parties had their representatives in Ughelli.
“We give God the glory that the tense political period is over and we are back to normal life. The battle has been won and lost but our brotherhood remains.”
He lamented that recent political engineering at the centre had a distasteful impact on the UPU, Urhobo Progressive Union, posing a great challenge to all sons and daughters of Urhoboland as they attempt to restore the hegemony of the UPU.
He remarked that it was fortunate that the change occasioned by the amalgam of regional political parties that saw to the emergence of a mega APC that defeated the PDP was not reflected in Delta State as the PDP still evolved as the traditional owner of the state.
“This brought a blessing of immeasurable quantum as the Ughelli kingdom became blessed with the appointment of a Chief Judge, SSG, member of the DTHA, Honourable Commissioner of Finance, a professorial appointment and appointment of executive and special assistants to the governor and this is why we are here gathered.”
He prayed for God’s guidance to the appointees while they remained in office and be an asset to the Okowa led government.
He called for donation to complete the over N300 million palace project for the Ovie of Ughelli that is ongoing and used the opportunity to launch the UDU news magazine.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards and chieftaincy tiltles to the SSG and the CJ OF THE State.
