Steer clear of our facilities, Evwreni PG warns militants
By Jon Egie
In the wake of attacks on oil facilities in the upland of the Niger Delta embarked upon by the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, the president General of Evwreni community in Ughelli North LGA, Hon Victor Emuobosa Ohare has assured that his community is alert to the threat and ready to ward off any of such attacks to facilities in Evwreni.
He gave the assurance in an interview with our reporter
Ohare said although the Urhobo ethnic nationality benefited nothing from the amnesty programme, the Evwreni community which is a major player in the oil industry enjoys a cordial relationship with NPDC as the company has fulfilled over 40 percent of its GMoU and as such would not tolerate any infraction on NPDC operations in the community.
He however noted that the FG has not done enough in developing the Niger Delta region where oil is exploited to sustain the economy of the nation.
He also lambasted the political class from the region who he accused of being selfish to the detriment of the suffering masses of the people of the Niger Delta.
“We know so much have been given to Niger Delta region through the governors and other FG intervention agencies but I want to advise the FG to involve the elected leaders of the host communities by letting such funds go directly to the communities to ensure visible development” he said.
Hon Ohare called on the militants to lay down their arms and stop sabotaging the economy by blowing off pipelines warning that any such attempt on facilities in his community will be highly resisted.
A new militant group, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate has claimed responsibility for the bombing NPDC facilities in Eriemu and Udu all in Ughelli North and Udu LGAs of Delta State recently.
