Seven DTHA aspirants make way for Ominimini’s ambition
*vows to disgrace PDP in 2019
By Jon Egie
Seven viable and qualified aspirants for the seat of Ughelli constituency 1, in the DTHA have stepped down for the aspiration of Chief Dr Ominimini Obiuwevbi to make way for him to grab the APC ticket and win the general election with ease.
This was disclosed by Ominimini while fielding questions from reporters during the occasion of his declaration of intent to contest the Ughelli constituency 1, seat of the DTHA; Saturday, Sept 30.
Ominimini adduced his educational qualifications, political spread across the constituency and large follower-ship to his political leadership as factors responsible for the other aspirants to clear the way for him. Consequently, he saw no challenge ahead of his ambition to be elected as member representing Ughelli 1, in the DTHA, come 2019.
He said:”Academically, I am qualified; I pursued my education to PhD level in Management from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I did my Bachelor, Masters of Science, and Masters in Business Administration and Phd in Management. That is one of the areas of challenge people have but I don’t have that because I am amply qualified.
“Again, spread in terms of connectivity; my mother is from Orogun and I have lots of brothers and friends in Orogun, I went to Orogun primary school. I come from Agbarha and as you can see, this is my home; I built this house in 2005. In Agbarha here, my grandfather gave birth to 127 children and died in 1921. My father, Chief Emaye Obiuwevbi gave birth to so many sons and daughters and I am the seventh son of my father. I am well known and connected in the area, in fact, so many people have passed through me; I have friends and brothers in Ogor and Evwreni. So, my victory will not be tied to one ward or two units, I am going to win across the wards.
“If APC gives me the ticket I will win with a landslide. So many persons who were aspiring for the seat have come to me to say they stepped down for me. They said they thought I was going for the governorship race since they felt I was bigger than the House of Assembly seat. So far, seven of them have stepped down for me and by the grace of God we will have victory.
Reminded that the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district in the red chambers, Obiasi Ovie Omo Agege is from his constituency, Ominimini said: “It is given that the Senate seat of Delta Central is already in Orogun; in 1999, the House of Assembly seat was occupied by an Orogun indigene, in 2003, 2007 and 2011 the seat was occupied by indigenes of Orogun. So, in four consecutive tenures the House of Assembly seat was occupied by Orogun. Today, either by hook or crook, Evwreni has produced occupant of the House of Assembly seat for two tenures. Now, the leadership of the local government across the board, whether APC, PDP and all the parties met and zoned the House of Assembly seat to Agbarha and Agbarha decided to come out with their first eleven and that is why they led a delegation to me, Ominimini, saying, come and do this battle for us. You have a lot of good eleven but among the good eleven there is first eleven and Ominimini is the first eleven.”
On possible threat from the PDP to his ambition Ominimini said he was a member of the PDP “when some miscreants who have never won election but we have always delivered them decided to destroy internal democracy.
“We built PDP, you cannot talk the history of PDP in Delta State without mentioning Ominimini; Ibori knows, Uduaghan knows and Okowa knows that Ominimini is one of the founding leaders of PDP in Delta State.
“I left the party because of some people who don’t care about internal democracy. They believe they can write the names of people in primaries and congresses in the comfort of their bed rooms. Before I left, I complained to everybody that I felt could correct the situation. I complained to the governor, I complained to the Political Adviser, Chief Ighoyota Amori; I complained to the then party chairman, I was a member of the state exco and I complained to all of them and they failed to do anything about it.
“In a community where I lead a majority of the people politically, some people decided to throw away where power is and sow the seed that destroys internal democracy, that is why I left the party, and you can see that everybody moved with me, not just in this area but across Delta central and Delta state at large.
“Today, by the grace of God, those who made us leave the PDP we shall face them in 2019 and disgrace them and the PDP authority at the top will blame them. That is what we will do because everybody knows my capacity.” Ominimini said.
The event which held at the premises of Agbarha community Town Hall was witnessed by delegates from Orogun, Ogor, Evwreni and Agbarha clans being components of the constituency. The delegates used the opportunity to pass a confidence vote on Ominimini as assurance of their support for his election as member representing Ughelli constituency 1, in the DTHA, come 2109.
