Security first, no diversion Edo CP tells security operatives
Abavo Kingsley, Benin
Stay focused and avoid diversion, security operatives have been told as they carry out their assigned duties in the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
Hakeem Odumosu, Commissioner of Police in – charge Edo State Command said this was necessary as the actions and inactions of operatives could be misconstrued.
He gave the advice on Wednesday, 13 February, 2019 at one day training on roles and responsibilities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benin, the State capital.
Pointing out that effective security was critical to the success of the 2019 general elections; Odumosu said “every uniform person is a suspect.”
Therefore operatives must be tolerant even at the height of provocation. Also, they must not speak to the media.
Their over – all conduct to ensuring safety and peace in the conduct of the elections was important to having a fair and credible election, he stressed.
Stating that the politicians are looking for those to make scapegoats, Odumosu emphasized that operatives must remain neutral. Hence “any government in power is the political party we belong” he added.
Out of the 91 registered political parties, 62 are functioning in Edo and 26 presented candidates in the elections, Odumosu said.
