SDP charges Deltans on voter registration
By Ibebe Rufus Akpobome
A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and one time Councillorship candidate of the Party, Comr. Solomon I. Oyibo has urged all Deltans to come out enmasse’ to register in the ongoing voters registration exercise.
He made this call over the weekend while addressing newsmen shortly after the inauguration of New Ughelli South SDP Executives.
He gave kudos to the Delta State Chairman of the party, Hon Oke Idawene for his commitment to ensuring the survival of the party in the state thus far noting that it was time for Deltans to come out and carry out their civic responsibility of franchise by ensuring that they were duly registered and be legible to vote for the candidates of their choice in the 2019 general elections.
Comrade Oyibo who is also the Ethiope East Leader of the party stated that the beauty of democracy is to vote and be voted for, a process he noted that is made possible only by possessing a voter’s card and hence encourage all of voting age to go to the nearest registration centre across the State to obtain their voters’ cards.
“In my own capacity, I will be joining forces with my party and any other interested group to carry out a massive door to door campaign on the need to come and be registered. If we wait on the government to encourage people to register they wouldn’t because they want less people to register and take part in the electoral process for fear of being voted out.
“ I have therefore put modalities in place to join forces with my noble party, (SDP) and any other relevant group of like mind to move from door to door to encourage our people to come out and be duly registered. It is our duty to educate them. They may not know the usefulness of this exercise, but with God helping us, we shall educate them and get them registered. Voters’ registration is very essential to the growth and development of our electoral process and we shall make people to realize this and partake in it” he enthused.
