His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa paid a working visit to Sapele main Market on Wednesday, 9th September, 2015 to inspect ongoing construction work at the market.


Defying the heavy downpour, the Governor, accompanied by the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly who also doubled as the Law maker representing Sapele local government area in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Ovwigho Igbuya stormed the market site at about 3.00pm and met with the Contractor and CEO, PRIMI Construction Nigeria Limited, the Company handling the construction work.


Explaining the work on site to the Governor, the Contractor representing Primi Nigeria Limited, Pastor Jide Omoyajowo said there are one thousand six hundred (1600) stores in all that were being constructed comprising of one thousand two hundred (1200) lock up stores and Four hundred (400) open stalls. A part of the River Ethiope has been reclaimed to take up more stores in order to get the number of stores planned for.


There are four (4) fully completed jetties to ease the stress of traders from the riverine in bringing their wares to the market.


The CEO of Primi Construction Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ladi Fowora also added that the project will be completed by December 2015 if they do not have problem with funding, that they are at home with projects of this magnitude as they have handled bigger projects in the State and other parts of the Country.


The Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was satisfied with the pace of work so far and asked all traders occupying the lock up stores to vacate the stores. He said the stores will be allocated after completion of the market. He equally asked anyone that has paid money for the stores to get back their money from whoever they paid to.


The Governor assured the crowd that gathered at the site that at completion, stores will allocated and everyone will surely be entitled to a store.

Market women and other traders that came to welcome the Governor were full of joy at the Governor’s visit, some of them responded that the visit of the governor is a pointer of the determination of this present administration to make good their promise of completing the market and they are now more convinced that in no distant time, they will relocate to the market for business. They prayed that the December 2015 deadline for completion of the market should be realised as this will be one of the dividend of democracy they will forever be grateful to God for and it will be credited to the government of Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State.


Present at the occasion to receive the Governor were, Community Leaders, Market Association, Local Government Officials and traders at the market.
