Rotary Club Osubi gets new President

Rotarian Patrick Chike Okanmelu has been installed as the new and 9th President of Rotary Club of Osubi along side with a new Board of Directors.
The colourful ceremony which took place in Osubi Okpe Local Government during the weekend attracted a lot of Rotarians from other Districts who graced the occasion.
In his address, the new President appreciated the Board and members of the Club for having the trust and confidence in him promising not to let them down and accepted the “Huge Responsibility “” that is attached to the office.
While outlining the club plans for the year which according to him will not be different from the Areas of Focus of Rotary International and will be based on the Theme ” Be The Inspiration”Rotarian Okanmelu listed his action plan for the year as getting new members by tasking each member to at least bring one new member.
The Chartering of Interact Club of Osubi Secondary School and Rotaract Club of Delta State University DELSU Abraka and Federal University of Petroleum Resources FUPRE Effurun, The Increment in their ability to contribute to Rotary International and Polio Plus. Other plans for the year are the Introduction of Book Club in Ebrumede,Opete and Okpaka Secondary Schools. While the Book Clubs in Osubi,Oha Secondary and Petiwas primary schools shall be sustained. The Osubi Rotary Club according to it’s new president said that they are going to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, by educating Keke Riders on road signs and provision of Helmets to Okada Riders in order to limit the rate of accident on the highway.
Others are the carrying out test of Prostrate and Cervical Cancers on 100 men and Women across Okpe Local Government Area.The Ongoing Water and Sanitation projects in Agbarho and Ebrumede shall be sustained.
While assuring that the work on the Osubi Health Care Centre project with Blood Bank facility and other facilities like Skill acquisition centre, vocational Training including Computer, Wielding and Fabrication as well as Hair Styling and Barbing will be carried out.
Rotarian Okanmelu said the projects will cost the club a total of 8 .756,500 million naira. He concluded that the club will continue with it’s annual empowerment of the usual 10 women by providing them grants through it’s Micro Credit Scheme.
The out going President Rotarian Suala Yeri appreciated the Board for their support and unalloyed commitment and dedication towards sustainance of the club which also led to his success in achieving it’s goals during his tenure.
He listed some of his achievement as the setting up of two Book Clubs in Osubi Secondary school and Petiwas Primary school, where annual awards and gifts are giving to deserving students and pupils. While the club during his tenure donated chairs to Petroleum Training Institute PTI Library, The Osubi Secondary and primary schools, Petiwas Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools were alao giving note books, text books, furniture and dictionaries etc. so also the club under him met all the criteria laid out by Rotary International as it affects the Presidential Citation among others and added that he is very confident that the new Board led by Rotarian Chike Okanmelu will also do well.
In a lecture Tilted Inspirational Leadership delivered by Professor Franklin Sanubi of Delta State University Abraka, who also doubled as the Chairman of the occasion said that today the greatest problem facing Nigeria is leadership despite it vast resources.
He explained that a leader is somebody who gives direction for others to follow. Adding that an Inspirational leader is a person whose action and words are motivational and inspire people to act and a good leader is that person who lead by example not only by preaching something but seen to do it and such a person must have integrity,organised and most have a good carriage.
Professor Sanubi said Rotary has from time to time show good leadership by pursuing it’s set goals which is giving and making the society better for human beings to live in.
High point of the occasion was swearing in of the new Board of Directors by Rotarian Okanmelu and the induction of Engr Vincent Agbofode MFN (JP) as a full fledged Rotarian. Rotarian Blessing Okpapi Ekpe Club Membership, Rotarian Cyril Oyakhilome Service Project, Rotarian Kehinde Oisemaye Rotary Foundation, Rotarian Ighodalo Akpasubi Youth Service and Rotarian Mfon Otite Douglas Public Relations.
