King Duku being decorated by the Rotary Club during the induction ceremony

KING Duku II, the Orovworere of Effurun-Otor kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State has been inducted as a Rotarian by Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis District, 9141 Nigeria.

Speaking after his induction, the Monarch said, “It is my pleasure and honor to return back home as a Rotarian which I left before, due to  collar job that took me away for a very long time”.

He said, “The moment you accept to be a king, you have actually accepted the life of service and if you cannot serve the people, then there is no point accepting or applying to be a king because it will serve no purpose if you cannot serve your people.

“I was a Rotarian till 1986, before Olorogun Michael Ibru transferred me from Lagos to revive ailing Superbru brewery in Agbarha-Otor and because of the serious challenges confronting me in trying to revive the dying industry of such magnitude, my attention was drawn away from the rotary club.

“But God works in a mysterious way and that is why the president discovered and invited me back to the body of charity givers that I once belong to. So it is my pleasure and honor to be called back home and am sure that some of my chiefs and persons here will be delighted having seen what we have done today and what we will be doing much later, to be part of rotary club.

“I also want to appreciate the president, there have been so many presidents but no one has carried rotary to the doorstep of the communities and to actually make rotary hold the way the president has done it now, it must move to the communities and I will not be surprise if you visit the Okobaro Ughievwen Kingdom because he is such a young and vibrant king that will accept being a Rotarian to be one of us.

Speaking further, King Duku said, “The greatest challenges in our communities today is unemployment at the local government and state level and one of the things I did less than three years ago when I became king having understood the terrain was that we need to drive in investment and we have to look at the business opportunities that are bound, how we can tap into them, what and what we needed to do and what we ought to do.

“In that drive, we brought in resource persons from different areas train and reorient our people the values in ‘Effurun-Otor Economic Summit’ and since then, some of the investment opportunities that were identified were being taken advantage of by our people.

“Today as I am talking to you, through that Summit, one of the largest fish farm in Delta state is in Effurun-Otor and through the  derivatives of that exercise more people have joined in doing one thing or the other.

“Right now we are also in discussion with three serious investors via the instrumentality of oil and gas to site a modular refinery here in Effurun-Otor”. The monarch said.
