PTI set to produce world-class indigenous manpower for Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry
The Principal/Chief Executive of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State , Professor Sunny Iyuke has said the institution is to produce world –class indigenous technical manpower to drive the Nigeria oil and gas industry in line with the global best practice.
Professor Iyuke disclosed this when speaking to newsmen in the school.
He said the institution has striven very hard to fulfill the aims of the federal government’s content policy by development and training competent manpower specifically for the oil and gas and allied companies.
Professor Iyuke said , since the inception of the institute, it has turned over forty –six thousand( 46, 000) technologists and technicians in different disciplines adding that it is doing more to realize its goals.
He said for the avoidance of doubt, new projects are constructed while others are being renovated among which are the construction of a 300 sitter lecture theatre on main campus, renovation of academic blocks, construction of a standard swimming pool at Aladja and renovation of the intuition’s swimming pool which was abandoned for over two decades among others.
He said the institution is in partnership with foreign bodies on other support courses such as specifics on diving equipment maintenance , training personnel for Dive Medic, among others.
He said, SOD has been galvanized with the mandate to provide national focus on sub-sea engineering interests, certificate of students’ divers, underwater non destructive testing inspection among others.
Professor Iyuke said the institution is responding to the dynamism of oil and gas sector and in collaboration with University of Port Harcourt has commenced post HND programme in all fields of engineering that will lead to the award of Bachelor of Engineering adding the students will have advantage over University graduates as they tooled in both practical and theory.
He said the institution has also commenced Masters’ programme in Information and Communication Technology in conjunction with UNIPORT among other bodies.
