A group, Nigeria Female President Initiative (NFPI) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prepare his hand over note, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to a vibrant and courageous female president of Nigeria, come 2019.
A statement signed by the Convener of the group, Mr Felix Akpoyibo, noted that the declaration of intent, currently trending on various social media platform, by one Monica Ambrose, to contest the office of the President of the FRN in 2019, is a welcome development and urged other female aspirants to do same.
He said governance in Nigeria since the military era to the present day democratic dispensation has been in shambles considering the poor leadership style so far and hence, from the local government to the federal government level, the legislative to the executive have been a disaster to the country.
He lamented that a situation where estates, VIP homes and exclusive hotels have access to 24-hour electricity supply whereas, the majority of the populace have no access to one-hour electricity supply in this modern age, and even electricity distribution companies run generators t o power their offices and outlets “is sad and a wicked development”.
While affirming their absolute support and confidence in the anti-corruption war championed by President Buhari and the gradual defeat of Boko Haram, which almost became a global threat and to Nigeria especially the North East, the group argued that a courageous and dedicated female president will continue the anti-corruption legacy of President Buhari and also solve the socio-economic problems faced by Nigerians and Nigeria.
“A dedicated female president will not take Nigeria to where the government is run like ATM machine without PIN code or password where money meant for fighting Boko Haram insurgency that killed our children and brothers in the North East will be converted into private accounts and used to buy private property abroad, buy private jets and fly our money to overseas without airport protocols.
“A dedicated female president will not encourage the type of leadership we find in Nigeria today where anti-corruption Bill is not given speedy passage, where a Bill to grant amnesty to people who milked our country dry is being proposed.
“A dedicated female president will not take us back to where Ministers and Governors are richer than their own states.” The group said and warned that it has come to a stage where Nigerians are no longer interested in any political party but are keen on the individual who could provide solutions to the socio-economic problems bedeviling the country and the answer, the group believes, is in a female president.
