South -South Zonal Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Brother Emmanuel Ogidi, has said the successful presidential primary of the party held in Port Harcourt and the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential flag bearer was a victory for Nigerians and not just Atiku.
He said it was the cry by Nigerians to be rescued from the misrule of the present All Progressive Congress (APC) led administration that was answered through the fair primary of the party.
He said the unity of the aspirants and the smooth conduct of the primary was a manifestation of the desire of Nigerians to effect change through the ballot box.
Ogidi noted that the party leadership was not unmindful of the unwarranted victimization of its members under the guise of fighting corruption maintaining that the party would not be deterred by any form of political vendetta from the Federal Government in her determination to wrestle power at the centre.
His words, “we are not unmindful of President Buhari’s vindictiveness, selective arrest, investigation and prosecution of his perceived opponents and we are prepared for him this time around.
“APC is known for deceit and propaganda, one of such is its claim the 14 million people participated in the primary that nominated President Buhari. Nigerians are tired of suffering in the midst of plenty and PDP march to Aso Rock.”
He accused the ruling party of manipulating figures in anticipation of the forthcoming election.
Ogidi said those defecting to APC were doing so for fear of victimisation and most have retraced their steps.
Commenting generally on the party’s primaries held across the federation, Ogidi said the rebranded PDP believe so much on internal democracy and that will pave way for smooth sail in the 2019 general election.
He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state for displaying high level of efficiency and integrity in organizing the presidential primary that was acclaimed to be the best ever in the country’s history.
According to Ogidi, who is also a Deltan, Governor Okowa has demonstrated transparency back home in the conduct of primary in the state, boasting that the choice of Great Ogboru as APC gubernatorial candidate has already earned PDP electoral fortune ahead of the 2019 general election.
