Open Central Hospital now, Obasuyi tells Obaseki

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has been tasked on the need to open the long abandoned Central Hospital in Benin, the State capital.
Former House of Representatives candidate and national Chairman, United Registered Political Parties – URPP; Comrade Michael Obasuyi expressing worry about the hospital’s long abandonments, demanded that the Governor should without further delay open the facility for public use.
Obasuyi made the demand in Benin City while addressing members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Edo State Chapter who paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday, 5 February, 2019.
He wondered, that Central Hospital appears annually in the State Budget presented to the House of Assembly, whereas, nothing is done to revive the health institution that was built in the colonial era.
“Governor Obaseki should stop playing politics with the Central Hospital.
“Some years ago, President Buhari came to Edo State to commission
a state of the art Central Hospital but the edifice has remained shut ever since,” Obasuyi noted.
Saying he was however not going into battle against the State, the URPP Chairman opined that “once it’s near 2020 Governorship elections, they will try to put that place in order, but it will have been too late because it will all be tantamount to propaganda.
“Any Government that can not provide quality healthcare for its people is not fit to be a Government and must be removed by democratic means,” he further stated.
Highpoint of the visit was a recitation of the Hippocratic Oath, which served as reminder for selfless service doctors render to humanity.
Meanwhile, the former House Of Representatives candidate for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency has vowed not to shift his support for his chosen candidates in the State’s House of Assembly election holding on Saturday in spite of alleged pressure from some politicians to support their bid at the polls.
According to him, “some of these candidates have questionable character and are from a questionable party too. I believe as the voice of the people it will not be fair for me to collect a dime from anybody, and then betray the collective will of the People.
“They will hear the voices of the people loud and clear this Saturday, even as I am aware some highly placed persons are planning to rig massively, buy votes, and instigate more violence, so as to shift power, and ensure they remain in the majority at the State House of Assembly but it will surely fail”.
