was agog, Sunday, Feb. 5, when Sir Ominimini Obiuwevbi presented thanks offering to God in respect of his successful completion and award of Doctor of Philosophy  PhD (Management) by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Two bishops of the Anglican Communion: the Rt Rev Blessing Erifeta (Sapele Diocese) and Rt Rev Emamezi (Western Ijaw Diocese) among other members of the clergy participated in the celebration of the Eucharist during the Thanksgiving Service.

Friends and well wishers, political associates, relatives of the celebrant from Agbarha as well as the body of Knights of Saint Christopher were on hand to add colour to the occasion.

Given the opportunity to testify of the goodness of God, Ominimini told the congregation that he was prompted to embark on the academic pursuit when a friend visited him and requested for financial assistance to purchase form for registration into a Masters Programme at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. At that instant he had the intuition not only to assist the friend but also ceased the opportunity to help himself.

So, instead of giving the cash to the friend for purchase of the form he decided to drive with him to the university where he purchased two forms, one for the friend and the other for himself.

Subsequently, he proceeded with studies and successfully completed an MBA Programme and then enrolled for a Masters in Management Studies. Not done, he encouraged himself to commence a PhD Programme in Management, which to the glory of God, he completed and has been awarded the degree by the University of Nigeria during its recent convocation ceremony. But sadly, the friend who initiated the idea of the academic pursuit never completed his programme in spite of all persuasion.

He said it became imperative for him to appreciate the presence and support of God for the success in the academic pursuits noting that while in the race, during his transit between Ughelli and Nsukka, most times, when he had passed a spot incidences of armed robbery were recorded and other times, such incidences happened before he would get to such dangerous spots.

“It was God all through that helped me, gave me the enablement and made me come out with flying colours”, Ominimini said and for these reasons he decided to give thanks to God.

As a spice to his thanks offerings, Ominimini announced the docation of the sum of one million naira contributed by ten of his friends who shared in his joy and on behalf of his wife and children, gave the sum of N.5 million to let the work of God progress.

Friends and well wishers, relatives, kinsmen and all political associates who joined him in the presentation of the thanks  offerings also gave their token in support of the chief celebrant, notably-Mr Samuel Onoharigho Obuiwevbi, a retired  school teacher who brought Ominimini from the village and under whose tutelage he gained primary and secondary education.

Later, Ominimini treated guests to a banqeaute in his residence during which a delegation of the Alumni of UN presented a rendition in honour of the university.

Prof. Akpojotor gave the toast to the celebrant saying that henceforth, Ominimini became an authority in research issues related to his area of study.

Mr Samuel Onoharigho Obuiwevbi who mentored the young Ominimini said he was happy because Ominimini suffered the pains of the cane during his early upbringing in his house and now enjoys the gains of the height of educational pursuit and hence opened the dance floor with a step.

Nathaniel Oruma, a popular Urhobo cultural artist supplied music for guests while Mr David Omote Akperhe aka Umuku-Efia, a Grand Orator of the Federal Republic, mastered the ceremony.
