Barely three weeks after the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, dissolved his cabinet, Mr.Festus Ovie Agas has clinched the position of Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba.

Speaking through the newly appointed Secretary to State Government (SSG), Mr. Patrick Ukah, on Wednesday, June 3, 2021 in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Governor Okowa announced the appointment of Festua Agas as the new Chief of Staff, Government House, and added that the inauguration date would be announced later.

In his words, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Deltans, that His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has approved the appointment of Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas as Chief of Staff, Government House.”

The new Urhobo-born Chief of Staff who served as Chief Strategist to Governor Okowa in the recently-dissolved cabinet was Secretary to State Government between 2015 and 2019 during the first tenure of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

A native of Oteri-Ughelli in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Festus Agas finished his primary and secondary school education at St. Paul’s Primary School, Ughelli, and Urhobo College, Effurun, in 1970 and 1975 respectively. After his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Government College, Ughelli, he studied Mass Communication at the University of Lagos where he graduated in 1982.

After his youth service, Agas worked with the Delta Steel Company (DSC), Owvian-Aladja, in the public affairs department of the company for several years before branching into politics in 1999.

He contested and won the seat of Ughelli Constituency and was elected into the Delta State House of Assembly in 1999; he eventually became Deputy Speaker of the House in 2002. He got re-elected into Delta State House of Assembly in 2003. During this period, he studied and obtained a degree in Law from the Delta State University, Abraka.

Festu Ovie Agas also served as the Director-General of the Direct Labour Agency during the first tenure of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Governor Okowa’s predecessor. He later became the pioneer Director-General of the Okowa Campaign Organization.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Okwa, Olorogun Davis Edevbie has sent a congratulatory message to his successor, Festus Agas on his appointment as new Chief of Staff.

He also congratulated Chief Patrick Ukah who has been appointed as the new Secretary to the State Government

Edevbie’s statement reads in parts as follows:

“Your appointments as the Secretary to State Government and Chief of Staff to the Governor, by His Excellency are well deserved, and I am optimistic you both shall do well in discharging the responsibilities attached to the office of designation.

“Over the years, you have both shown consistent commitment towards the Stronger Delta agenda, and this has endeared His Excellency to consider you both suitable for the designated offices.

“As you proceed further in your careers, I pray God grants you both wisdom and all required of you to perform beyond expectations.

“I extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to you both.” Edevbie said.
