Oba of Ogbaland salutes Nigerians

The Oba ( Eze-Ogba ) of Ogba land and former Chairman Rivers state council of Traditional Rulers , His Eminence, Sir (Dr) Chukwumela Nnam Obi 11 OON JP has appealed to Nigerians irrespective of their status, tribes, sex, religious and Political affiliations to pray fervently for a peaceful and successful general elections which is transition from civilian to civilian administration.
Oba Chukumela who made this appeal in his new year message to Nigerians requested the political class and youths to refer their minds to the 1953, 1963, 1983, 1993 episodes and vehemently resist any attempt to be used as tools by desperate politicians to cause confusion during or after the 2015 elections.
The foremost Traditional Ruler who spoke against the use of raw and uncomplimentary languages as well as thugs by opportune politicians to cause public disturbance noted that it was an abuse of democracy to make innocent people suffer while political leaders engaged themselves in dirty politics.
He sued for the immediate unification of all Nigerians, pointing out that there are some elements whose stock in trade is geared towards causing troubles through negative actions such as rumours and incitements and called on journalists not to give such Nigeria’s enemies publicity. According to him ill informed and unconstructive media criticism does not do good but harm.
The Ogba Monarch stressed the need for dialogue, patience, tolerance and understanding among Nigerians in resolving issues that affect the generality of Nigerians and called on the people to use the occasion of the New Year to collectively join hands to move the country forward.
He however advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to be intimidated, but should continue to remain focus, determined and ignore all side talks aimed at distracting him by detractors, and described the daily hurling of abuses on the president by some respected statesmen as dangerous development capable of ridiculing the image of Nigeria among comity of nations.
The one time National President of Traditional Rulers of Oil and Gas Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCOM) further called for moderation in utterances among the elder statesmen
on national issues and advised politicians to shun comments and actions that may cause disunity in the country and lambasted some elder statesmen who have access to the president, but instead of going to him to proffer solutions on how to move the country to a fast lane of progress would resort to abusing and criticizing him on pages of newspapers.
The Ogba Monarch also called on the NASS and Federal Executive Council to bury their differenc es and join hands, without sentiments, to aggressively address key national issues such as security, poverty, corruption, sliding of the Naira, hunger and unemployment, noting that no efforts should be spared towards alleviating the suffering of the masses.
He also lamented the marginalization of Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area as well as MNCs operating in the area, noting that the area is not properly treated considering its notable contribution to the nation’s wealth and described the Ahoada- Omoku- Egbema major roads and internal roads in Omoku and other villages as death traps that needed attention.
