As the countdown to the 2019 general elections in Nigeria continues, all deities in Benin Kingdom are to be reactivated for action.
Particularly, all traditional leaders, priests, and priestesses are required to carry out the appropriate rites at the shrines of the various deities.
The Monarch, Oba Ewuare N’ Ogidigan II gave the instruction in an enlarged meeting with his subjects on Friday, 28 September, 2019.
The Monarch said this became necessary against the backdrop of the prevailing times: ravaging bloodletting, crime and criminality in the country especially as the elections draw near.
All deities especially Emotan, Okhuaihe, and Ovia are to be reactivated to wade off ravaging bloodletting, crime, and criminality in Edo, before, during and after the elections, the Monarch directed.
This is as he urged Edo indigenes in the Diaspora to come join hands in the developmental efforts at home.
The revered Monarch also disclosed that the annual Ugie festival of the Kingdom is to be held this year which marks the first in his era on the throne.
According to him, the traditional three years required before the festival holds when the Oba ascends the throne is already complete.
Oba Ewuare II ascended the throne of his ancestors on 20 October, 2016.
