The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council has hailed governors of the South-South region for their resolve to establish a security outfit that would tackle security challenges in the region.

The South-South governors under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Thursday, March 4, 2020 at a meeting in Asaba, proposed the establishment of the security outfit.

In reaction, the NUJ, Delta State Council in a statement issued by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Churchhill Oyowe (Chairman and Secretary respectively), said the resolve indicates that the South-South governors have listening ears and the will- power to respond to the needs of their people.

The NUJ, South-South zone had in a recent meeting held in Uyo called for the establishment of a regional security outfit to checkmate internal and external attacks by criminal elements. NUJ, Delta State Council said the swift response of the governors of the region will go down well with stakeholders as insecurity challenges in the country was rife in the South-South region.

NUJ called on Houses of Assembly of the States in the South-South to complement the position of the governors by speedily facilitating the legal framework for the proposed security outfit.
