ASABA- CHIEF Press Secretary to Delta State Governor, Mr. Charles Aniagwu has said the State does not have even a plot of land for the federal government proposed cattle colony nor ready to cede any plot of land for that purpose.
Mr. Aniagwu gave this disclosure on Tuesday, January 23, at Asaba during a media interaction with members of the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel, (ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, urging all parties interested in cattle business to go purchase lands to run their business.
Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the Indigenous Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Barth Inneh Ozah thanked the CPS for his press friendliness and support to the NUJ so far and appealed to him to make such interaction with Journalists more frequent in order to be abreast of government activities and clarification on some issues bothering on the public.
Speaking further, the CPS stressed that; “Let me make it very clear that Delta State do not have any plot of land for cattle colony or hectares of land. But as a state, we will continue to acknowledge the fact that there is the need to coexist as a people. It was fate that chose us as Nigerians, none of us made that decision and because we didn’t make that decision, we have to respect that fate. However, in doing so, it must operate on the basis of live and let’s live. Anyhow that we are going to live and allow others to live without causing any danger or damage to anybody, is and will always be welcome by the Okowa administration.”
Aniagwu further note that most landlords in major cities like Asaba are from either the eastern parts or other parts of the country but they bought the lands to erect their buildings for business. He added that anyone who wants to do any form of legitimate business should purchase a land for such purpose.
“So anything that can be done if we need to to be sincere, with the view to ensuring that it becomes live and let’s live, Delta State Government is in for it but as for the issue of colony, we don’t have even a plot of land for such purpose. We also do hope that the Federal Government takes seriously the issue of the rising spate of insecurity because an insecure nation is tantamount to to becoming an undeveloped nation”. The CPS stated.
The spoke person of the government also disclosed that the Okowa administration is working hard to ensure Delta State is developed and has so far embarked on many developmental programmes such as the GEEP, YAGEP and others.
He said contractors working on different roads across the state have returned back to site and ensure that all roads under construction will be completed but said, as part of Governor Okowa anti’corruption program, government will go after erring contractors to recover its funds.
Meanwhile, the CPS has revealed that the Asaba airport project will now be handled by Setraco as the first contractor has been ask to step aside
