Nigeria shall be great again———NBA
By Jon Egie
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ughelli Branch has expressed hope and confidence in the prosperity of Nigeria in spite of its present economic woes.
Chief Obah Okpubie, a senior member of the Ughelli Branch of the NBA gave the hope while presenting a toast to the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the occasion of the 2017 Annual Dinner Party of the NBA held at the Ruth Iwe Hall; Saturday, Dec.23.
Chief Obah who earlier gave a toast to the Bar, traced the trend of prosperity of the Nigerian economy sourced from oil in the Niger Delta, the drift of the economy into recession and the prevalence of hike in petrol price even at the yuletide leading to harsher economic situation and increased cost of living.
But in the face of the glaring despair he expressed hope that the Nigerian economy will improve and Nigeria will be great again and thus, proposed the toast to the FRN.
In a goodwill message, ASP Agaga, Legal Adviser to the Nigeria Police in Ughelli who represented the Ughelli Area Police Command called for attitudinal change among Nigerians rather than depending on the existence of laws to check crimes.
He believed that to effect a positive change in the society, citizens must first undergo individual transformation which may not specifically depend on the tenets of laws that in itself has not been able to stop crime and criminality.
Chairman of the Ughelli Branch of the NBA, Joel Opete Esq in his welcome address thanked Chief Milton Ohwovoriole (SAN) and other senior members of the Bar for their support to the branch. He was also thankful to members of the Bench who graced the occasion pointing out that the Bar was the spring board to the Bench.
“I am indeed proud of the members of the Bench of Delta State Judiciary as none of them was found wanting throughout the old legal year. I believe this New Year will be better than the past for all of us” he said.
Earlier, the Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Marshal Umukoro who was the chairman of the occasion advised members Lawyers to adhere strictly to professional ethics especially in dealing with their clients and commitment to rendering the services the clients paid for.
In an interview Chairman of the Dinner Planning Committee, Uzeizi Ududua Esq reacting to the CJ’s advice said the Chief Judge’s charge was a good one intended to admonish lawyers to act professionally so that the image and reputation of the legal profession would not be brought to disrepute. He urged his colleagues to at all time act professionally in line with the CJ’s advice.
Highlight of the occasion was a start of the buffet which was led by the CJ, Justice Marshal Umukoro while other members of the NBA and invited guests took turn to enjoy the dinner.
