Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has issued a 30-day ultimatum to President Buhari within which the president is expected to inaugurate the board of the NDDC which has been screened and cleared, warning that shoul the presidency fail to heed the call, the Niger Delta region shall be shut down without further notice.

The ultimatum was contained in a Communique reached at Ughelli, Wednesday, April 28 and read by the Joe Jackson, National President of NDYM who expressed the groups’ loss of confidence in the administration of the NDDC.

The communiqué whci was signed by Comrade Joe Jackson (President), Comrade Osamuyi Ediagbonya Joshua (Secretary) and chairmen of the nine states of the region namely: Comrade Kingsley Okere (Abia), Comrade Sammy Charles (Akwa Ibom), Comrade Boboye Peretu (Bayelsa), Comrade Enefiok Inyang (Cross River), Comrade Edon Monoyo (Delta), Comrade Asor  Philip (Edo), Comrade Prince Ifeanyi Iyasara (Imo), Comrade Goodluck Aziki Meduoye (Ondo), and Comrade Austin Ijeoma Okpara (Rivers); condemned in totality, the appointment of an illegal interim administration for the NDDC ti replace the illegal Interim Management Committee (IMC), “When there is a screened and cleared Governing Board for the commission yet to be inaugurated.”

It said the appointment of MrEffiong Okon Akwa is unlawful and has no place in the Law establishing the NDDC.

They described Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio as a saboteur who ought to have known that the illegal appointment of Effiong Okon Akwa disenfranchised the constituent states of the region for fair representation in the Commission.

“The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, ought to have known that this illegal appointment disenfranchises the constituent states of the region to fair representation in the Commission.

“It is a clear display of irresponsibility for any officer of government, worth his/her onions, to foist another illegal appointment after the previous illegal appointments were pronounced unlawful by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“The contrived delay in inaugurating the already cleared and screened NDDC Governing Board fuels the suspicion for lack of timelines for Forensic Auditors and a cover for more fainting simulation.

“The excuses for not inaugurating the screened and cleared Board of the Commission are very shallow because much bigger institutions such as the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, among others, have undergone such audits without defiling the laws setting them up.

“The Minister must respect himself and the office he occupies and do the right thing once and for all.

“We demand the immediate inauguration of the already screened and cleared members of the board of the NDDC.

“ It should be noted that if the Presidency refuses to inaugurate the legally screened and cleared Governing Board of the NDDC within one month counting from today, April 28, 2021, the NDYM will mobilize all youth groups in the nine States of the Niger Delta, our affiliates, sympathizers, and partners in the region to shut down the region. We shall make the Niger delta region ungovernable if Mr. President refuses to inaugurate the already screened and cleared governing board of the NDDC.” The communiqués said.
