There was confusion, Monday, Jan 11, at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Ughelli following the death of a newspaper vendor who slumped and died.


The vendor, Abraham Ibobor, was until his demise, a major newspaper distributor at the Post Office Roundabout, and was said to have given up the ghost at the Accident & Emergency Unit of the Central Hospital, Ughelli where he was rushed to after slumping by the pool side of the hotel.


According to witnesses at the scene of the incident, the victim who had already undressed, except for his boxers, insisted on bathing in the swimming pool but was turned down by the management of the hotel who told him that the pool was being washed after it had been used for a pool party the previous day.


Not satisfied with the explanation, it was gathered the deceased had ordered for two bottles of beer which he was drinking by the pool side when he suddenly slumped and was immediately rushed to the Central Hospital, Ughelli where he was confirmed dead from a likely cardiac arrest.


Confirming the incident when contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu while discountenanced claims of a likely attack on the victim stating that there was no sign of physical attack on the deceased and informed that his corpse has since been deposited at the mortuary.
