Millicent Emerges DSPG Miss Urhobo

Miss Millicent Ovwiphre, a mass communication student of the Delta
State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-uku has emerged as the winner of the
institution’s organized Miss Urhobo.


She came top among other contestants in a beauty competition held
during the celebration of the Urhobo cultural Day and launching of
almanac, August 26, 2011.

The event which held at the premises of the Delta State Polytechnic,
Ogwashi-uku attracted a cream of Urhobo sons and daughters in the
school community.

The new Miss Urhobo was very excited at her victory as she hugged her
co contestants and waved joyfully to every one.
In her acceptance speech, she promised to use the opportunity to
promote Urhobo culture in the institution.

Earlier, the president of the student union government of the school,
Miss Loveth Ikechukwu expressed her satisfaction at the success of the
celebration of the cultural day saying that culture is a string that
unites people.

In her elation she donated the sum of N2000 towards the launch of the
Urhobo almanac.

Also speaking during the occasion, Mr Akpoveta Emmanuel, a lecturer in
the department of mass communication advised Urhobo sons and daughters
to respect the Urhobo culture stressing that upholding the cultural
values of Urhobo would give them self identity. He equally donated the
sum of N4000 to support the students in the launch of the almanac.
Highlight of the occasion was the award of chieftaincy title to Master
Solomon Akpobome by the leadership of the Urhobo student union.
The new Urhobo campus chief in his appreciation urged all Urhobo
students in the institution to imbibe Urhobo customs and traditions.
The Ema traditional dance entertained the audience during the occasion.
