It was total disappointment for the family of Alonge at Uokha village, Afuze, in Owan East Local Government of Edo State recently when a 35 years old Philip Alonge, married, was macheted by his younger brother Sunday Alonge due to VCD plate. What seems like a normal argument between the two brothers over non essential commodity degenerated to a fight and thereafter leading Sunday to pick up a machete to slice and mutilate Philip.

Trouble started when Philip retired from a normal day’s work to get himself entertained with his video machine set, but discovered some VCD which he proposed to watch on that faithful day could not be found in his shelf. On inquiry, his wife Mrs. Endurance Alonge intimated him that his younger brother Sunday took the VCDs, which according to the wife immediately prompted her husband to confront his younger brother to recover the VCD plates, but was resisted by him which later resulted to a brawl between them leading Sunday the younger one to bring out a cutlass to slaughter Philip his elder brother.

The mother of the deceased Mrs. Grace Alonge and an elderly one in the family Mr. Jacob Alonge said the two brothers have been living like “Cat and Rat” and every attempt to broker peace among them have always failed.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Afuze who confirmed the gruesome murder said the culprit is still at large. Meanwhile the medical Director Dr Felix Nwane of the Nwane Medical centre where Sunday died said the cuts were numerous and has several deep wounds, hence, all attempt to save the deceasd proved abortive.
