The mystery behind the survival of Chief James Onanefe Ibori from his travail in London has been unveiled.

National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus revealed that the secret of Ibori’s survival is hidden in the Bible book of Psalm 41:1-2 where it is explicitly stated that those who are generous to the poor are blessed and shall obtain mercy from God in the days of their trouble.

Prince Secondus made the revelation while speaking during the occasion of thanksgiving and grand reception ceremony held in honour of James Ibori on Saturday, March 10 at Ovwor-Olomu in Ughelli South LGA.

He said Ibori believes in supporting the less privilege to take their rightful place in the society and has therefore earned himself the credit of a unifying factor in Nigeria.

According him, Ibori has built a political structure that is envied in the Niger Delta and hence, Delta State is the only State in Nigeria where governance has been stable.

He recalled that in 2015 while Ibori was serving his jail term, he got a call from Ibori requesting him to support Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s governorship race. As deputy chairman then he mobilized the party to give the needed support to Okowa who eventually emerged victorious. He sued for continued support for Okowa in the 2019 general election because he was convinced Okowa is doing well.

The PDP national chairman challenged the APC led Federal Government of Nigeria to tell Nigerians what they have done three years after being in government and without much ado, pointed out that the APC knows they have failed and as such only the PDP can rescue Nigeria from imminent collapse that the APC has plunged Nigeria in.

The Homily

Earlier in a homily, the Bishop of Ughelli Diocese (Anglican Communion), the Rt Rev Cyril Odutemu expressed joy that the crowd was gathered to celebrate and give thanks to God for the safe return of Ibori from his travails in London. But he challenged Ibori to ask himself why people love him so much, why he passed through the travail and what lessons he has learn from the travail.

He said that some of those whose betrayal led to Ibori’s travail were in the crowd to celebrate with him and cautioned citizens not to deceive politicians. He used the opportunity to caution Governor Okowa to ensure he made money available to pay the salaries of primary school teachers and local government council workers, whether it is his statutory obligation or not because the people are suffering and Okowa needs their votes in 2019.

“In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, provide bread for your people. It is not your responsibility but you need their votes” the Bishop advised.

He told youths in Delta State to stop undeserved loyalty to politicians for paltry benefit and usefully engage themselves, even if it meant going to the farm.

“Ibori, you have more work to do; that you are alive know that you have work to do. Nigeria is sick and in need of a true leader. Buhari is not the solution to Nigeria’s problem, the solution is with God and only God will give us a deliverer. There are many sycophants among politicians, Okowa do not let sycophants deceive you and you contractors, stop deceiving the resources of the State.

“Ibori will live long but the length of your days will come from God. Draw nearer to God, confess your sins and continue you good works and God who never allowed you to die in prison will never allow your enemies to get at you.

“Deltans, do not make yourselves available to be used in 2019. Urhobo kings, stop accepting gifts of cows from Fulani herdsmen, reject their cow gifts and your land will be safe.

“Ibori, your political destiny shall be fulfilled. Okowa your tenure shall know peace. God uphold Secondus, give him vision. Lord help Buhari and Nigeria.  May every idea that will lead Nigeria to calamity disappear from Buhari and all those who will be used for such calamity be disappointed” the Bishop prayed.

In his response, Chief James Ibori thanked God for sparing his life. He said: “It has been a year since I returned from my Sabbatical in London. There are no words to express my appreciation to you all but I hope that in the days ahead my action will show that. There will be time to speak, the journoy was long and I forgive all tha were responsible. Urhobo people please know yourselves. The clergy, please always tell us the politicians the truth, I appreciate the message delivered by Bishop Odutemu. Those who want to contest election please go into 2019 with peace.” He advised

Also reacting to the homily, immediate past governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan confirmed that there are so many sycophants among politicians. He recalled that during the Ibori trials, the Court requested one family member each from the paternal and maternal sides of Ibori to attest to his character. “The two people we met refused to attest but they were the first to meet Ibori when he regained his freedom to Nigeria”. He called for support to Ibori as he deals with issues that cropped up while he was in prison.

Oguma declares Okowa returned

Chief John Oguma who hosted the event informed that while Ibori was in prison, he directed that his political family be united and ensure that Okowa was supported. The directive was obeyed and Okowa emerged as governor of Delta State in 2015. He reassured that since Ibori has returned home, the re-election of Okowa in 2019 will be a walk over and hence, declared Okowa returned.

In his own speech, Governor Okowa expressed excitement for the safe return of Ibori. He appreciated all who gave their support and asked the Urhobo people not to worry about those who contest governorship election every year.

“Don’t worry, when the PDP has taken over leadership of this country in 2019, we will all be happy” Okowa encouraged.
