I have come to work in Edo State – CP Kokumo

In the face of prevailing security challenges that have bedeviled Edo State in recent times leading to loss of several lives, new Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Command, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo has declared that he is in the State to work.
Under his reign, there will be zero tolerance for corruption, zero tolerance for human rights abuse, crime and criminality will be fought to a standstill as no crime committed will go undetected, also, bail remain free.
The habit of police operatives demanding money from complainants before carrying out their duties will not be tolerated saying even though the police will not be able to respond immediately to distress calls due to logistic reasons, it will definitely do its best.
Kokumo made the declaration on Monday, 30 October, 2017 during a familiarization visit to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), at the Press Centre, Benin City.
Soliciting partnership of journalists in the task of ridding the State of crime and criminality, he said journalists are like the police who are everywhere hence very relevant in the area of information unveiling.
No matter the strength of weapons in the arsenal of the police, without information, its ability to fight crime will be highly hindered, he said.
Also, the collaboration of members of the public and sister security agencies is highly solicited for the police to effectively deliver under his command, he added.
In response to request of Chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Roland Osakwe , the CP assured that victims still in detention of kidnappers including musical maestro, Osayomore Joseph will be released very soon.
This is as he disclosed that four persons arrested in connection to the Kidnap of Managing Director, Ogba Zoo, Andy Ehanire are already singing and at the appropriate time, they will be charged to court.
He reiterated that synergy of every member of the State with the police is needed in the fight against crime and criminality assuring that under his command, there will be peace and night life restored in the State especially the State capital
