Member representing Oredo federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogbeide Ihama has been given a second tenure by his constituents.
Ihama was returned by 32,895 votes against his closest rival, Iyoha Osaigbovo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 23,352 votes.
Prof. Elizabeth Omotunde Egbochukwu of the University of Benin, returning officer for Oredo federal constituency said eight political parties contested for the House of Representatives position.
While the results were being prepared to be announced, Valentine Imasuen, Edo South Senatorial APC agent approached the INEC officials with a petition which he said was from his party.
The petition was intended to stop INEC from announcing the results as it was protesting results from eight of the 12 wards in the constituency, he said.
But he failed in his attempt as the officials refused to oblige his request.
“By the time INEC review all the issues raised in the petition, probably they will have a rethink, that will determine the results of Oredo federal constituency,” he stated.
Asked to comment on the performance of INEC, he snapped; “I can’t tell you that.”
Hon. Ihama in reaction to his victory, said; “this is a reward obviously for effective representation. I know I have done everything within my reach to represent my people well, and they have reciprocated by showing total love from ward 1to 12 by voting en – mass to return me to the national assembly.
“Now that the jinx is broken, I think we will now take Oredo federal constituency to a higher level in the House.”
