Chief Ayiri Emami

The people of Ugborodo community in Warri South West LGA of Delta State have called on the FG to hold the Ologbotsere of Warri kingdom, Chief Ayiri Emami responsible for the deaths and mayhem that trailed invasion of the community by security agents on Saturday.

Three persons were allegedly killed with a good number of houses burnt down in the wake of the invasion.

In an SOS message to PMB on Monday, February 12, 2018 the people cried out that there was a deliberate attempt to silent them after telling the whole world the truth that “we have never been under the lordship of the Olu of Warri kingdom”.

The petition was signed by Pa Douglas Omagbemi, Pa Pasco Oritsegbami and Hon Thomas Metsagharum.

They said they were not surprised that security agents were sent after them few hours after they embarked on a peaceful protest against what they described as “Slave Treatment” from the palace of the Olu .

“We wish to restate our stand that Ugborodo is not a part of the Warri/Itsekiri kingdom and this should not be misconstrued as fomenting trouble, rather putting the record straight and being on the right side of truth on this issue which we have consistently stated.”

We have usually and will continue to live peacefully with our neighbours (the Gbaramatu kingdom) and all we ask is to leave us alone to continue living in peace.

“On Saturday morning we came out to protest the enslavement of ourpeople by a few persons in Warri. Few hours after the successful protest the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom,Chief Ayiri Emami backed by the Delta State Government invaded our peace loving community with security agents and killed three innocent indigenes and gave them all sorts of names. They burnt several houses in the community as well.

“We are living in abject poverty in our community, they came an invaded our community and started calling us armed robbers, kidnappers and bunkerers. The large crowd of people that came out on Saturday morning for the liberation of our community are not bunkerers, sea pirates, thieves, armed robbers or kidnappers. We are therefore crying out for justice for the killing of our innocent indigenes. The FG should hold Chief Ayiri Emami and men of the Nigeria police responsible for the bloodletting of Saturday

“Politics cannot be ruled out of the current crisis in our community, now that Chief Ayiri Emami is warming his way back to Governor Okowa, they are doing everything to silent us. We appeal to the FG to come to our rescue. We are a peace -loving community that abides by all laws of the land. We are not criminal but traders who are trying to make legitimate living.

“The men of the Nigeria police turned their guns against the people they were supposed to protect, the Army and Navy were disciplined and civil. The ugly incident wouldn’t have happened if the police behaved like the Army and the Navy. We call for a probe of the deaths and the matter should not be swept under the carpet” they sued.
