Drivers plying the ever busy Benin/Auchi Road have been advised to take it easy and always stick to traffic rules to  avoid accident especially at the notorious Ewu Hill.

The advice becomes necessary as human factors which relates to drivers’ errors resulting from poor level of experience, are major cause of road crashes in Nigeria.

Most drivers are inexperience without knowledge of traffic rules and regulations, hence road crashes account for a large share of the total number of injuries and death in the country.

Commander, RS.13, Iruekpen Unit Command, Fidellia Obasi stated this in a one day safety and awareness campaign recently.

The campaign initiated by a nongovernmental organization: ‘Champion Chambers Empowerment’ in collaboration with the FRSC was hosted by special Marshalls, Unit 32 in Esan Central Local Government Council Area of Edo State.

Acknowledging support of the NGO in spreading the gospel of safety to help reduce crashes on Nigerian roads, especially the Ewu hill, the FRSC boss

expressed the command’s gratitude to the President, Pastor Ben Okhai for the kind gesture.

Also, Obasi encouraged motorists to always obey all traffic laws to reduce crashes on the high ways.

Delivering his speech, Pastor Okhai an indigene of Ewu Community, said the NGO decided to organize the event after critical review of the number of accidents that have claimed lives on the Ewu hill axis of the road.

“My NGO is taking a lead in humanitarian service delivery and safety awareness campaign” Okhai asserts.

He called on all stakeholders to join hands with his organization to confront the challenge of frequent occurrence of accident on the Ewu hill.

As he suggests that erecting safety signs and deployment of FRSC officers to the axis could help curb accident before completion of the reconstruction of the road.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event while complaining about the slow pace of work, pleaded with the federal government to prevail on the construction company to quicken completion of the road before the rain season sets in.
