DESOPADEC: HOSTCOM throws weight behind Egedegbe, berates ASFOGAPCOM
By Jon Egie
The host communities of oil and gas (HOSTCOM) have thrown its weight behind the re-appointment of Dr Peter Egedegbe as a representative of the people of Ughelli North and Ethiope East LGAs.
The support for Dr Egedegbe’s re-appointment was contained in a Communiqué issued at the end of the Joint Meeting involving host communities of Nigeria, oil and gas, which was attended by the Presidents General and Secretaries of Afiesere, Eriemu, Evwreni, Uvwiamuge, Eruemukohwarien, Kokori-Orogu oil fields; Tuesday, October 16, at Afiesere community town hall.
The meeting particularly frowned at a recent media statement credited to a faceless group, which parades itself as Association of Families of Oil and Gas Producing Communities (ASFOGAPCOM) to the effect that HOSTCOM cannot nominate persons to the Board of DESOPADEC.
HOSTCOM queried the existence of ASFOGAPCOM saying that as an illegal body, it has no right to advise Governor Uduaghan on whom to appoint into the Board of DESOPADEC.
HOSTCOM noted that there have been reports of fictitious organizations making efforts to lure and cajole some unsuspecting oil and gas communities and defraud them in the guise of promises to fight their cause, a challenge which HOSTCOM has been championing, and warned that they and their cohorts will soon be exposed.
HOSTCOM described as unreasonable, the attempt by a group of people to lay claim to the land where oil activities take place in a bid to seeking attention from government and the oil companies under an illegitimate organization like the ASFOGAPCOM.
“For clarity, oil companies can, with modern technology, apply horizontal drilling which affects both the site of the equipment and the point of oil and in this case, the activities affect everyone in that environment.”
HOSTCOM insinuated that the media statement “by these charlatans was a diversionary measure to put a clog in the reappointment process of Dr Peter Egedegbe and called on all Deltans to disregard the position of ASFOGAPCOM.
“We wish to stress that the enabling law that put DESOPADEC in place does not cede its right to any body to be sole nominator of persons into any office zoned to any LGA nor disqualifies anyone from being reappointed apart from the prerogative of the Governor, in his wisdom, not to talk of selfish, greedy, faceless and illegal organizations like ASFOGAPCOM.
“We wish to assure the general public that HOSTCOM will live up to its responsibilities of delivering rightful services to her people including, but not limited to the nomination of Dr Peter Egedegbe for reappointment as member representing Ughelli North and Ethiope East LGAs in the Board of DESOPADEC, to continue his good works to the people.”
The Communique was signed by Onoberhie Peter (PG-Afiesere), Erhurhore Richard (PG-Odovie), Chief Ibrighademor (PG-Opherin), Francis Esane Esq (PG-Owevwe), Prince Lucky Oruma (PG-Evwreni), Chief Greg Atori (PG-Unenurhie), Avwunugharoja Joseph (PG-Eruemukohwarien), Ibru Oseghe (PG-Uvwiamuge), Johnson Akpotu (PG-Erhoike), Okporuanefe Benjamin (PG-Erhobaro-Orogun); Matthew Otuekena, Chairman HOSTCOM Ughelli North and Festus Ighoyivwi, Chairman HOSTCOM, Ethiope East.
