Coronation activities of Crown Prince Eheneden in Benin on – going

Activities marking the crowing of the Edaiken N’ Uselu Prince Eheneden Erediauwa as the 39th Oba of the great Benin kingdom began on Saturday, 8 October, 2016 and on –going, to climax with the presentation of Staff of Office to him by the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole on the 20 October, 2016.
The coronation event was kick started with the Crown Prince moving away from Uselu where he has been residing in the past months, to Benin in final preparation for his coronation.
On the day, he was accompanied by a large crowd of Uselu Chiefs, prominent Benin personalities, traditional societies, women and youth groups.
Following age long tradition of the Edo people, they all trekked a distance of about eight kilometers from Uselu to Benin City.
On his way, the Edaiken had to climb the sacred palm tree known in Edo language as Udin Amamieson – aimiuwa [without suffering, no prosperity/ enjoyment palm – tree]. The palm tree is said to be over 500 years old and it was first climbed by Oba Ewuare during his sojourn in the forest.
From the palm tree, he proceeded to Iya – akpan, where Chiefs from Oredo took over and escorted him to Eko – Ohae.
Urhokpota Hall at King square, the city centre is the place called Eko – Ohae [bachelor’s camp] where the Ediaken stayed for three days.
A huge tent that serves as temporary abode for the Crown Prince has been erected at the Urhokpota Hall premises.
The Crown Prince on Tuesday moved from Eko – Ohae to Uzama Palace last week.
Benin history has it that the Uzama Palace is the old location of the Oba’s Palace before it was re – located to its present abode by Oba Ewedo in the 11th Century.
On his way to Uzama Palace, he briefly stopped at the Emotan statue to perform some rites as demanded by tradition.
According to the Coronation Planning Committee headed by the Enogie of Evbuobanosa/ Abudu, Prof. Gregory Akenzua, the Edaiken will on Tuesday, the 18 October, 2016 move from Uzama to Useh community for the ceremony of the choosing of a name that he will answer as the Oba.
At the Uzama Palace, the Edaiken is expected to spend seven days before going to Useh village and return after picking his name.
And he will on 20 October, 2016 leave Uzama for Urhokpota for the official presentation of Staff of office to him by Governor Adams Oshiomhole
