Management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, has alleged that the organization loses about thirty six percentage of electricity power generated in Edo state through illegal consumption, none payment of bills and commercial theft.

The executive director, commercial, Dr Abu Ejoor made the allegation during media launch of Edo state Meter Asset provider (MAP) scheme and other updates at the organization’s headquarters in Benin City the state capital.

He said, consumers would have been happier if reverse was the case, which could have seen more consumers enjoying better power supply to better their life and enhance business operations.

According to him, “with forty-four percent of BEDC power allocated to Edo state alone, an average person living in Edo should be enjoying larger hours with constant power supply”

“About thirty percent of power supply to household are wasted due to inefficient management of use aside the theft and illegal consumption and also thirty-six percent of power generated is lost through commercial theft or illegal consumption and none payment of bills”

Dr Ejoor noted that between 2018 and now, BEDC has connected one hundred and twelve communities without power supply in their coverage areas to the national grid.

“Two of such community transformers in Auburn, Igarra success school junction and at Migita Jattu Uzaire were commissioned last month and in early September”

On MAP, the ED commercial, stressed the need why costumers should embrace the new scheme which he said would enhance adequate power supplies in their franchise state.

He maintained that the scheme will be taking off in two major locations in the state.

“We are taking off in GRA to Ihama, Benin city and Okpella in Auchi, Edo north which is going to cover large areas.

He enjoined customers to always support BEDC with prompt payment of bills and honoring of other obligations for their desired satisfaction.
