Bayelsa Supplementary Poll: violence, bloody attacks in Bayelsa as thugs machete Ex-Assembly Speaker, Council Chairman

The re-run Governorship election scheduled for today in Bayelsa State yesterday continued to record bloody and violent confrontations between supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) the Southern Ijaw Local Government Council and the other 101 units of Ekeremor, Nembe, Sagbama, Yenagoa in the State,
Already, violent attacks have been recorded in Ekeremor Local Government area of the State with supporters of the APC and PDP engaged in a free for all at the Local Government headquarters following the arrival of Non-sensitive materials.
it was gathered that attempts by the PDP supporters to protest against attempts by some APC chieftains to take control of the election materials resulted in bloody attacks which left the one time Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Boyelayefa Debekeme and the Chairman of the Eleremor Local Government Council, Hon. Billy Tobiye injured.
It was gathered that the Ward Agent of the PDP and Secretary of the Local Government Council, Tams Alari and Traditional ruler of Ekeremor, HRH Agbodo Gbaseimo were also injured in the bloody battle.
Our Correspondent gathered that attack threw the entire community into pandemonium as some of the infuriated groups threatened to pull down the State Government Lodge in which they alleged is housing some hired thugs of the PDP Chieftains.
The troubled Ekeremor Local Government area is the home town of the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and has over 13,000 votes to be contested for by the various political Parties.
A State Government Sources claimed the armed men were hired by the APC and that they were brandishing dangerous weapons including guns, machetes and cudgels and clearly high on drug-infused adrenaline, ”the invaders unfazed by the presence of security operatives, descended on Rt. Hon. Debekeme and others with machetes and other weapons of war.
Debekeme received deep machete cuts on his head and other parts of his body, while Tams Alari and Billy Tobiye were beaten to stupor by the rampaging militants who claimed to be acting the script of their master.”
“The helpless policeman on duty was saved by soldiers who came to his rescue and recovered the arms from the hoodlums. The recovered arms are still with the soldiers. As the assault proceeded, staff of the Governor’s Lodge scampered for safety and the militants took over the entire community.”
The injured Former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Debekeme, according to report is receiving treatment at an hospital in Torugbene community of Ekeremor Local Government and the duo of the Council Chairman, Billy Tobiye and Tams Alari are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Bomadi, Delta state.
*Navy arrest two thugs in Peremabiri community*
Meanwhile, two persons suspected to be thugs allegedly hired by one of the Political Party were yesterday arrested by the men of the Nigerian Navy in the Peremabiri Community of Southern Ijaw Area of the State.
It was gathered that the thugs were arrested by a special vigilante outfit put together by the Peremabiri Community and alleged to have entered into the community to disrupt the election.
Sources within the Community informed that there were mounting tension in the Peremabiri community as series of attempts to invade the community and unleash mayhem has been repeatedly ward off by the youths led by the foremost ex-militant leader, Comrade Eris Paul, popularly known as ” Ogunboss “.
While one of the suspect, identified as Ebi was arrested after a hot chase by the community boys before was he whisked away by Naval officers, the other suspected was arrested while hiding in the bush waiting for night fall before launching a deadly attack.
Attitude Ebi, who was arrested by the community on allegation of attempting to cause mayhem in Peremabiri community reportedly confessed that he was invited by a friend to come and vote and was paid N50,000 thousand after the exercise. Youths numbering hundreds are holding sticks, cutlasses and clubs on red-eye alert.
