HRM, Mike Omeru confers the chieftancy title on Chief Onakpoma

In recognition of his sterling leadership qualities and determined effort to move Agbon kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State to an enviable height, HRM, Mike Omeru Ogurimerime, Ukori I (JP), The Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, on Sunday May 11th, 2014 conferred chieftaincy title of the Okugbe of Agbon kingdom on Chief William Onakpoma, former Manager Agip Company, former President Agbon until club Lagos, Chairman Kokori board of Trustee and currently the ground patron of Political Grass Root Ambassador of Nigeria (PGAN).


In his speech, during the conferment the monarch described William Onakpoma as a dynamic leader who has become a fantastic role model to Deltans. According to him, Chief William Onakpoma who hailed from Kokori In-land is bred and groom in the Council Area.


In a tribute on the leadership qualities of Chief Onakpoma, the royal father remarked that the kingdom is proud to have Chief William Onakpoma  as a son .


The royal father said his decision to honour Chief Onakpoma who is the Chairman, Kokori Board of Trustees with the chieftaincy award was to encourage him to contribute more to the development of the kingdom , having shown evidence of brilliant performance in the office of BOT.


The royal father described Chief William Onakpoma  as a humble and astute grass roots politician who  cares for and has respect for the elders and constituted  authorities.


“Chief Onakpoma’s leadership has contributed immensely to the development of the kingdom and to the state at large” the monarch said and prayed for good health, wisdom, long life and prosperity for the Okugbe of Agbon kingdom.


The ceremony came to a high point with a performance  of  Urhobo traditional music supplied by Arthur Ovwieurobo during which  Chief Onakpoma  accompanied by his family relations,  friends well-wishers danced in merriment.


In an interview, Chief William Onakpoma expressed satisfaction for the great honour done to him promising that he would try his best in improving the welfare of Agbon kingdom. He also promised to contribute his quote to assist the royal father and his subjects in the kingdom.


A cross-section of dignitaries at the event which took place at the Ethiope East Local Government Council Hall in Otorho-Agbon thanked the Ovie for conferring the honour on Chief Onakpoma.

Olorogun Sunday Umunade, the Achoja of Agbon kingdom, Ogbiyama of Kokori who is also Hon. Councillor representing Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Council, expressed joy and satisfaction, saying that the honour has added a plus to the dignity of Chief Onakpoma. He described Onakpoma as a respectful person, kind, courageous, a grass-roots politician, a motivator  an achiever, and a man of the people who has rendered so many help to the people of Agbon including the youths.


Hon. Umunade also used the medium to advise the youths of the kingdom to shun any act of violence and remain peaceful at all times so that development can thrive in the kingdom.


The acting chairman of Political Grass-root Ambassador of Nigeria (PGAN) Mr. Umunade Aruedjere Moses described Chief Onakpoma as a dynamic and visionary leader who has helped many people in Agbon kingdom and beyond, on behalf of the forum Mr. Umunade A. Moses used the medium to advise Chief Onakpoma to see the honour conferred on him as a call to serve Agbon kingdom. He also congratulated HRM Mike Omeru Ogurimerime, Ukori I (JP) the Ovie of Agbon kingdom for the honour he has conferred on him.


Reception was organized for quests and family relations in accordance with the coronation rites and food were lavishly served to every one present at the event including Chief Ukochovwera Oboba, Chief Umururu, Mr. Lucky Udjemy and among others who graced the occasion.
