Activities marking the 2019 NUJ Press Week in Delta State have commenced today, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 with a rally held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, to sensitize the public on the event that will climax on Friday, Dec 13 with a lecture and fund raising ceremony.

The State Council Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu led members of the Union in a rally across major roads in Asaba, making stop over at the premises of the Ministry of Information and Government House, Asaba.

The line up of the activities according to a statement signed by Emma Amaize and Churchill Oyowe (2019 Press week Committee Chairman and Secretary respectively), the Union will visit its sick members on Wednesday between the hours of 9am and 2pm. On Thursday, there shall be a novelty match at 330pm and on Friday the event will come to a climax.

The statement said the Friday event will feature a lecture titled ‘Enhancing Safety of Journalists in a Security-Challenged Polity’ which will be delivered by Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi.

The Union shall on Friday give awards of honour and recognition to individuals as well as raise funds for the furnishing of its permanent secretariat (Press Centre).

The Friday event shall be chaired by Comrade Ovouzorie Macaulay, pioneer chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is expected to grace the occasion as special guest of honour while his deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro and the Patron of the NUJ, Delta State Council, Hon Prince Ned Nwoko will be expected as guests of honour.

Other special guests expected at the Friday event are: Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori (Speaker Delta State House of Assembly), Mr Chiedu Ebie (SSG, Delta State), Olorogun David Edevbie, Chief of Staff, Govt House).

Chief Chris Isiguo (National Chairman of the NUJ) and Mr Charles Aniagwu (Hon Commissioner of Information, Delta State) are the chief hosts while Chairman of NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu is host.

The event shall hold at David’s Event Centre, Anwai Road, Asaba at 11 am.
