Delta Stae Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Ali Ari

No life was lost during the unprovoked attack of over 20 armed men on Ashaka police station, Sunday, June 6.

A release by the Ag PPRO, Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe said the armed men stormed the police station at 1 am Sunday morning, threw Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDS) indiscriminately and shot sporadically with an overt motive of overrunning the police station, loot its armoury and set the facility ablaze.

The police station was built by the community with support from DESOPADEC. They succeeded at setting the station and one police vehicle ablaze with the effect of IEDs but no firearm was taken away and no life was lost.

The PPRO said the State Police Command would ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book as efforts were on to arrest them.

According to him, the unprovoked attack will not deter the police from providing the needed security services to communities in Delta State.

In a related development, on Saturday, June 5, six armed robbers/kidnappers were killed by a joint team of the Command who engaged the hoodlums in a serious gun fight when the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed deployed the joint tactical team to their hideout in Issele-uku/Umunede axis of Aniocha local government area, after a tip off.

Other members of the gang fled into the bush with bullet injuries while one AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 magazine with 25 live ammo were recovered.

Still on Saturday, men of the Command who were on stop and search duty along Patani-Bayelsa Road arrested four persons for unlawful possession of firearm. The suspects were: Efe Oyenikoro (m), Felix George (m), Emmanuel Job (m) and Joan Yapiteghe (m)

According to the PPRO, the suspects were riding in a Sienna bus with registration number LSR 813 XL along the road but attempted to maneuver an escape when they sighted the police. During a search on the vehicle, “one locally made Berretta Pistol was recovered”.

He said the CP, Ari Muhammed Ali has given a marching order to all tactical Commanders, DPOs and men of the Command to be on their toes, gather intelligence and take the battle to the den of criminals and hence, urged members of the public to volunteer useful information that will assist the police in discharging their duties.
